VIEW EVENT DETAILSAsiaConnect Briefing with Daniel R. Russel, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs
April’s AsiaConnect briefing will provide an update in the Obama Administration's efforts to "rebalance" American foreign policy towards the Asia-Pacific region. In the wake of President Obama's meetings this week with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and Korean President Park Geun-hye on the margins of the Nuclear Security Summit, and with a landmark presidential visit to Asia approaching in April, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel R. Russel will join AsiaConnect for an exclusive discussion on the impact of this presidential diplomacy on U.S. relationships in Asia.
Daniel R. Russel is the Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs and is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Secretary in July 2013, Mr. Russel served at the White House as Special Assistant to the President and National Security Staff Senior Director for Asian Affairs. During his tenure there, he helped formulate President Obama's strategic rebalance to the Asia-Pacific Region, including efforts to strengthen alliances, deepen U.S. engagement with multilateral organizations, and expand cooperation with emerging powers in the region.
ASPI's AsiaConnect is a monthly telephone briefing series on pressing issues in Asia and U.S.-Asia relations made possible through the generous support of Asia Society Trustee Mitch Julis. This AsiaConnect call will be on the record.
