Accelerating Progress in Education: Investing in Knowledge Sharing to Advance SDG 4
VIEW EVENT DETAILSWith more than 260 million children out of school, 75 million affected by crises, and 69 million new teachers needed by 2030, we need stronger infrastructure for sharing and scaling solutions to these complex challenges in global education. We cannot achieve SDG 4 without prioritizing the effective sharing of knowledge across borders so that all countries can accelerate their progress to the rate of the top performing countries within a single generation.
A new report that speaks to this challenge, Investing in Knowledge Sharing to Advance SDG 4, was launched at Asia Society on Monday, September 24, at an invitation-only breakfast. The report is co-authored by the Center for Global Education at Asia Society, Results for Development, Teach For All, The Boston Consulting Group, and World Innovation Summit for Education.
As the Education Commission recommended in its 2016 report on our growing education crisis, The Learning Generation, education stakeholders must "invest in a global 'ecosystem' for education to promote cross-border learning and sharing of innovations and grow the capacity of leaders and practitioners across sectors." Building off of the Education Commission's recommendation, the Center for Global Education at Asia Society, Results for Development, Teach For All, The Boston Consulting Group, and World Innovation Summit for Education have convened over 200 education stakeholders, including government actors, bilateral and multilateral funders, UN institutions, foundations, and private and civil society organizations to develop a framework and criteria for effective knowledge sharing that will enable realization of the Commission's vision and accelerate progress in educational outcomes.
Welcoming everyone to the event was Asia Society President Josette Sheeran, followed by an introduction by Education Commission Director Liesbet Steer, and a presentation about the new report by Boston Consulting Group Partner and Managing Director Lane McBride.
Teach for All CEO and Co-Founder Wendy Kopp then moderated a panel featuring Omidyar Network Investment Partner Eliza Erikson, Global Partnership for Education Board Member Randa Grob Zakhary, Education Commissioner Baela Raza Jamil, and BHP Billiton Foundation Program Director of Global Education and North America Brodie Vansleve. The event closed with remarks from Education Commissioner Amel Karboul.
