Event Recap: Virtual Offering of The Future of U.S.-China Conference - Interactive Discussion with Ryan Hass
On January 18, 2024, as part of the 2024 Future of U.S.-China Conference, Asia Society Seattle and Northern California hosted a Special Interactive Virtual Discussion featuring Ryan Hass, director of the John L. Thornton China Center and the Chen-Fu and Cecilia Yen Koo Chair in Taiwan Studies at Brookings Institute. Hass shared his insights and exchanged thoughts with the audience on many of the key issues in U.S.-China relations, including the ongoing de-risking with China, alignments and distinctions between the Biden Administration’s China policy and his prior proposals, China’s relations with neighboring and developing countries, and China’s priority in dealing with domestic issues. He highlighted the potential for climate cooperation between the U.S. and China. Concluding the session, Hass shared his expectations regarding the evolution of the China policy of the U.S. following the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
